You are probably right about dripping springs where you are catching
it coming out of the wall. One could assume that water has had plenty
of filtration....

If you trace back a little you can find the minor non-sequetor in
this thread: DM said "springs" and BM said "side streams." IMHO,
both are right. No need...

Actually many of the water quality studies have shown that most side
stream water is of lower quality than the river, including the
springs as you mention....
