Ken, If you are flying into Vegas, you can connect to a communter airline directly to the Canyon and avoid Flag...

I'd also suggest doing dayhikes from the North Rim vs the South Rim. Temps in June can reach 120 degrees inside the canyon versus 75 degrees at the North...
