IÂ’ve always used a collapsible bucket or large plastic bag and filled it full of silty water then let it stand. After a few hours most of the silt settles...

Alan - Bring along a larger folding container to settle out the water before you pump. I use a 6 liter ziplock top Platypus bag, and it works very well....
