As long as you have a reasonably wide view of the sky a GPS device will work just fine. I would not count on it working properly in narrow side canyons or...

You are absolutely right Adair. The first trip I did with my boy across the canyon with Troop 800 of Phoenix in the early '70's had more than 30 people...
