IMO, a hand held GPS shouldn't be a single source for information.
From my experience they consumed too much power and didn't always
repeat for accuracy. ...

I agree that the availability of a GPS on a trip seems to detract
from the experience rather than enhance it. Do I really need to know
that we are now 20.5...

I confess I have a strong anti-GPS bias except for above the rim and
think that using a GPS below the rim must be a) lame, b) unsporting, or
c) less fun. ...

We have used a GPS on all of our gc trips. It is nice to have, but spend some time using it before you go as they can be complicated if you haven't played...

As long as you have a reasonably wide view of the sky a GPS device will work
just fine. I would not count on it working properly in narrow side canyons or...
