Experience suggests best/light/small size filter to carry on long
hikes? I guess must be able to do 1 gallon each time. Have to "clean"...

I do not have Canyon GPS experience, but do have some in the mountains. The
trail marked on a map is seldom accurate enough to set a route with waypoints...
