While standing on flat ground you should adjust your pole so your fore arm
is parallel to the ground. This allows your pole to swing forward on its own...

A couple of other useful points about using the poles (1 or 2 as
preferred). Be careful about puting full weight on your poles. You do
not want to have one...

I have a pair, of which I use one on steep trails, using
both only on flat ground. They make a huge difference, in part
because better balance means less...
