At least here in Albuquerque, REI gives a good course (One morning),and sell
a vidio
that is the instruction tape for your unit if it is fairly new....

You take float gear and scare the hell out of yourself, perhaps even
drown, or you hail a ride from river runners. The latter is difficult
in the winter...
