Being able to burn some of the trash would definately help.... I
guess for the weight factor you'd have to calculate the difference
between MRE's and other...

light weight tarp
I also have an old Golite tarp I bought about 4 years ago which
wieghs about 1 pound and stuffs into a small 3 by 6 inch stuffsack.
It is 12 by 10 feet.---...

Actually,squirrel_nut I had enough to use for 2 weeks of my PCT hike
and wished at the time I had more.
