Could you spray the softened (dryer method) Tyvek with a water
reppelent or sealer similar what is done with rain gear to make it
usable as a groung cloth...

Actually Owen, Tyvek is not meant to pass water or water vapor. In the residential construction business Tyvek is used over the framing before the exterior...
