Maswik to South Bass on foot
One option to get over to the South Bass Trail Head is to arrange a
shuttle and suffer the 2-3 hour ride.
I am wondering if there are any restrictions...

I've done BWCA, and hiked GC. Like Bob, I don't think it's possible
to really compare them. It's a lot of work to carry all that gear
when portaging, but...

I don't know that you could compare the two. Different muscle groups
are used. Most people who have problems in the GC when they first
start hiking there...
