Boiling as opposed to filtering.

Higher the speed the grainer and less sharp the result. Intrinsic
film limitation. High resolution requires fine grain and fine grain
film is slower than...

Absolutely true. Limited scene capture range of 7 stops or so makes
exposure to 1/2 stop accuracy necessary (outdoor scenics need 10
stops, Ansel Adams...
