Through Time". He talks about nasty sidehilling on the Esplanade
during the early part...

I don't think I said anything about "steeply sloped shale for a
number of miles" walking being what one finds on the Esplanade, or
the Point Huitzil route....

Along with Mike's comment, there is only one short section that could
be called side-hilling, but the Esplanade can get real hot. Huitzil
is not real easy...

I can't comment on the Point Huitzil route, but we did the Royal Arch/South
Bass Loop from South Bass two June's ago. I don't remember any side-hill
type...
