Greg, regarding point number 2, that nutrition is not critical for most
short trip hikers, Karen Berger, in her book, "Advanced Backpacking," seems

Two things to think about:
1). With the dry, windy, hot conditions prevailing-- be careful with
fire, hikers! They did some evac of folks on the North Rim...
