I agree there are no short cuts around it that make for an easier
trip but what a waste of elevation gain unless there is a flood.

I agree. I've done it both ways--climb the hill and try to go around. It was
faster to just go up the darn thing. It is not a big deal.

The hill is called 'Asinine Hill' for obvious reasons.

i've been there twice...and i have very little route finding ability...it was
very easy...no problem to find...and is a very short detour to ribbon falls,...

You'll come to a sign and bridge that crosses the creek. It heads to Ribbon Falls and then cuts back to the NK . Does anyone have a map that shows the trail...

Try Kanab, UT or Fredonia, AZ both are bigger towns, maybe greyhound goes
there, then find a short shuttle to the rim. I know that a cabbie in
Fredonia...
