Somehow I can't imagine learning how to climb from a book. Perhaps
about climbing and how to tie a knot but not how to climb. About the
only way to know...

The best book on climbing, and general mountaineering, that I've seen
is Mountaineering: The Freedom of the Hills, by Steven Cox.
