I carry a small red photon light on a string around my neck. It is
enough light to answer the call of nature and find stuff in the pack.

Yeah, they do this in Glacier N.P. to count grizzlies. I think they

I agree with John; I remember one moonless night 3 of us hiked from PR out the S.Kaibab sans lights or clothes...it was in July and all we carried was a water...
