I recall seeing irrigation dams in Pakistan (they call them barrages
there) that have a silt ejector channel around the dam. Some of these
have been in place...

Recently I used a hammock on the rim at Mather Campground and had no problems. I was told not to hang it on any of the trees below the rim.
