My husband agreed with you, and after thinking on it, I do too.
"Seasoned" hikers is a better choice than "veteran" hikers.

emergency telephones - history?
Does anyone know when the trail telephones were first installed along
the north kaibab? It must have been at least World War II, but the
year is a mystery.
