The key is camping close enough to do it as a reasonable day hike.
Last year we tried from the end of the Nankoweap Trail and that's just
insane, we made it...

I too have hiked rim-rim-rim in Nov via Hwy 67 and the NK trail.
Last many years the road has been open till Dec and didn't close
this year till Dec 19 due...
