Both are probably possible John.
It is pretty broken down both sides of the narrows and waterfall. I've
only done the upstream side for the reasons I gave...

Bleak is a good word. There's precious little shade there other than the
group camping area ... and a nice treed seating area next to the ranger's cabin....
