I have Keen sandals for camp and water shoes. They have a rugged tread and a toe box. I haven't tried them on the non-maintained trails, but did try them...

I haved hiked out of the Canyon on the BA Trail from IG to the rim in my very old Tevas just because I had a rub spot and always wanted to see how my feet...
