As you say, to each his own. For me, downtime is anytime I'm not
carrying a pack. So, I try to schedule at least once and sometimes
twice...

This is Good advice! I agree that if you are hiking to Vishnu via either
route you mentioned, the wise choice would be to hike to the CC...
