I am not talking about the 10' climb. I do not recall if it was

It is only 20-25' drop with lots of hand and foot holds in the top
5-10'. It can be upclimbed as well as down so "mandatory" might be
just a bit excessive and...

And in that vein I'll chime in and admit that I never found the
Horseshoe Mesa trails on any side to be a significant problem. They
are unmaintained trails...
