I usually just cram some gear or slide my sleeping pad down towards the "feet-end" to get
away without staking (actually "rocking" like Cliff does) the sides...

I know it is largely freestanding, but I believe the feet-end needs
to be staked out on either side to be 'fully' deployed.

Pete -- I wouldn't say that this is necessarily true. My
