My first solo backpack was Thunder River-Tapeats Creek--down river to Deer Creek--Surprise Valley. But, I wasn't really alone there with all the other hikers...

Isn't that a beautiful flower?! It is Anulocaulis leisolenus, aka
"Ringstem". It is in the four o'clock family, Nyctaginaceae. I always
see it along the river...
