I love my gps for off trail & winter highpointing but I always have a backup plan as nothing is 100 percent. Used mine last weekend during an off trail...

Your hiking and elevation test report is excellent qualification. You "lucky dog" getting a spot on a trip even if it is a short one. Good plan, no tent.
