Given the advice you've gotten on the opening date likelihoods for
the North Rim, I'd recommend doing your first GC hike starting and
ending at the South...

A good dayhike would be to take the South Kaibab trail down as far as
Cedar Ridge, or even as far as Skeleton Point. Great views from there.

Hi,
When we couldn't go all the way down to the river, Grand View Trail as far
as Horseshoe Mesa was recommended. This was in April and it was very warm....
