Hi Al, don't do it! Doc is right, you can hike from Hermit to Granite along
the river (with a couple of spots to "think about"), but above the Granite
debris...

Isn't it 45+ miles from Jacob Lake to the North Rim--wasn't that
tough making your own trail?
Did you then hike into the canyon and return to Jacob...

Other excellent riverbank trips are the Escalante Route, and upriver
from the Little Colorado to Nankoweap, and from Garnet to Elves
Chasm, and downriver...

The paint bucket sounds interesting, but I have had some pretty heavy
nylon and plastic chewed thru. I like the water pail option.
