I did this route for the first time in \'90 and found the
Backcountry Office route description quite helpful. It is
still available --- as far as I know of...

Yes, there is a trail between Red Canyon and Tanner, I did it from east to west about 4 years ago. It is well known and described in several GC guide books. ...
