Personally I would rather walk uphill with a fully loaded pack than add another 1000ft of downhill that starting at the higher TH would require.

The uphill climb with heavy pack at beginning of hike ain't much; we're talking less
than 1000ft over 3+ miles, barely noticeable to a GC hiker :) ...
