I have been in the route from the rim above what Steck calls Scotty's
Hollow. We have always referred to this canyon as Rattlesnake Creek so

Hey Bob, this route is different than the Kanab Pt "pick ax" route off the rim to the Esplanade. The Scotty's route takes off up a debris slide near the head...

OT: Tent recommendation for wet weather/high altitude
My wife and I will be hiking the John Muir Trail next summer. As you may know, most of that hike is above 10,000 feet.
