I use a vapor barrier sandwich on my feet often -- dry socks then a
grocery produce bag then fleece socks. Works great for...

I've used Gore Tex socks in wet snow. They're a bit "crunchy" and I'm
not sure how well they'd do hiking up and down the Canyon. Unless it's
really cold...
