I wouldn't be worried about the Miners Spring trail, certainly not with the
recent "improvement". But I can't really countenance an inexperienced
solo hiker...

You could drive to Sowats Pt - lovely place to car camp and should be
perfectly accessible with an ordinary car in May - and hike down to
Kwagunt Hollow...
