I highly recommend this loop hike. It would make a very nice
3-day/2-night trip. The Kaibab National Forest map or the Arizona
Strip map should work...

Pretty sure Mt. Charleston is only 11,800 or so, but you are right Jill, will be too much snow pack left by early May. Probably won't be able to summit until...

I wouldn't be worried about the Miners Spring trail, certainly not with the
recent "improvement". But I can't really countenance an inexperienced
solo hiker...

You could drive to Sowats Pt - lovely place to car camp and should be
perfectly accessible with an ordinary car in May - and hike down to
Kwagunt Hollow...
