Reid, My base pack weight for January of this year on a Clear Creek hike of seven days was 15 pounds. My normal April/October base weight is 13.5 pounds....

Its a cliche but pounds are made of ounces. To reduce pack weight the first thing to do is purchase a set of luggage scales (accurate to a couple of ounces)....
