Another great place to go is Phantom Creek Canyon which is a couple north of Phantom Ranch, you have to cross Bright Angel Creek so bring water shoes.

Can't speak to Havasupai as I have not been. One the drive up I-17 to The Canyon take the drive through Sedon and Oak Creek Canyon then make your way...
