I faxed in my permit request early in the morning of 06/01/2010. I've been checking my cc account and don't see any activity yet.

Even if you have a car, the trailhead parking lot can fill up pretty early. Here's info from the Grand Canyon Lodge on the North Rim.

There is a shuttle service that leaves from the front door of the Lodge. You just need to make a reservation at the front desk.
