You might be able to rig a wine-box liner to fit into the carrying sack. Worth a shot. Heck, if it doesn't work out you still have the wine.

Maybe I should consider myself lucky... the only time I have ever had a
problem with this water sack is when I set it down on a cactus which would
damage most...

It may be a bit late for this...but for many years I've carried an empty "box wine" bladder in my backpack, just in case I need extra capacity (or whatever.) ...

I know this doesn't help you with what you are looking for, but would recommend replacing with something more reliable -- this design has multiple failure...

Yes the mule poop is a deciding factor as well as the 'swimming pools' left on the trails.
Anyone have any idea if the NPS plan to limit mule rides...
