It is a good loop either way. I prefer to hike down Boucher. Keep in mind, once you reach Hermit Basin and begin the Supai traverse over to Dripping...

My wife and I did a Boucher/Hermit loop a few years ago. We went down Boucher and spent a night at Yuma before going on to Boucher Creek. Very worth the view...

instead of hiking in and around horseshoe on day 1, camp on and explore the mesa. hike around it day 2 to cottonwood.
