Here's an exercise that worked well for me. This and simple lunges with a weighted medicine ball are easy to do at home. Set up a "step" about a foot off...

I agree with Steve. There is no months of prep that I do. I stay in reasonable shape, ratchet up the local day hikes I do (no pack, just day pack) right...

To avoid leg fatigue I like to take frequent breaks (every hour to 90 minutes). During the break I take my boots off, lie down on my back, and raise my feet...

I agree with you John, I climb up and down 64 flights, five days a week and encounter no pain or "Kaibab Shuffle" on the trails. Great training alternative...
