You forgot the rattlesnakes that also like to inhabit that area, especially in the flows. Some of Cove to Lava isn't that bad but once you reach the Lava flow...

It's already been pointed out that floating is much less impact than walking the river where folks "float the river" to make an exit as opposed to bushwacking...
