Strongly agree, Unkar and Kwagunt also. Possibly the expected number of hikers may have influenced these sizes, but there is an advantage that you can be less...

"The hand of man", in the case of the Phantom log, was actually the hand of Mike Mahanay in May of 1985. See message #326 on this group! That log lasted well...
