Some people might forget the difficulty of starting again uphill with a clutch now that almost every vehicle-type is auto-trans. A restart -- safe or not --...

I agree that pacing is an ideal way to hike. When I was younger and in good shape, I could hike for hours at a constant heart rate without stopping. ...
