Gig Harbor ? .... Check with the Tacoma chapter of the Mountaineers and see
where they train for the Basic Climbing course.
There has to be places closer...

I loved hiking up Tiger Mtn (West Tiger 3 to be exact)
Hard to get a parking spot on a good day though.
I trained there and the stairs at the Lakeview Exit...
