IMHO, footwear is an absolute requirement for GC hiking, or any desert hiking. I don't like heavy, bulky boots. I suppose you can get by with light boots or...

Scott I had the same problem with low Keens on a Royal Arch trip. I took them back to REI when I got home. I have a pair of Keens in high top that are better....
