It's certainly shorter and definitely more entertaining. We did a loop down the Huitzil route and then back to the Bass trailhead. The walk on the Esplanade...

There's an rei about 10 minutes from the airport.
There's another rei on the way from the airport when going toward flagstaff it's about 30 minutes or less...
