I'm sure that's true but think it might be a serious environmental and
water source contaminant if used away from the river. The gel
evaporates on use.

The trick that I have found is to check all your bags with the sky-caps
at the curb. They then come looking for you if you are stuck in a long
securtiy...

In all our years of hiking the canyon, drinking untreated river water we have
been lucky and have never become sick in the canyon. We have been careful
but...
