FYI --- the park recommends crampons but on my hike down the BA this
morning to 1.5 mile it was all powder snow and packed snow. I did
not use crampons but...

I'm curious about what sort of winter gear you used? Crampons+other?
Was it all packed snow on the SK for the 1st couple miles or?

I hiked this morning down the South Kaibab trail to Ooh Aah Point the
snow was down to just above the switchbacks below there.
The snow is about a foot deep...
