The same USGS site also offers pdf maps without georeferencing, making the file size much smaller. This is the best choice for those that only want to print...

The GeoPDF's are exact copies of the standard 7.5 minute USGS maps in PDF format. The files are fairly large, though - the one I downloaded is 14 MB.
